London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2009: Ready for Vacations

Vacations are the motif penetrating most of the designers’ expressions in the London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2009. Among them, Paul Smith, Nicole Farhi and Emma Cook did particularly well displaying some ravishingly fresh and innovative ideas all of which inspiring the imagination to an altogether new level.

Paul Smith

The Paul Smith collection is composed of the deluxe North African vibe and the reminiscent American country style. Three ways to create peaceful and relaxing moods are: one is to use light fresh colours like white, cream, coral, lemon yellow and light blue, another is to apply soft translucent fabrics such as chiffon and cotton, and the other is to employ loose comfortable designs a la kaftan and baggy trousers. Don’t worry that a roomy dress may ruin your femininity. All you need to do is cinch a scarf around your waist and you will have a perfect silhouette. It goes without saying that a headscarf would do the trick. Why not trying a country checked dress for an afternoon tea party, and putting on a cloud chiffon gown for the prom?

Nicole Farhi

Nicole Farhi resonates the hilarious tune of vacations too. Black, white, yellow, pink and light blue are freely utilized to portray the upcoming bright season. Tailored dresses are the hinge for a fashion maven look. The designer’s creativity can be found on both fabrics and designs and uniqueness is emphasized with paint splashed cloth, floral waves and dazzling striped printed cloths. Multiplicity of the dress is made possible by different designs from v-neck and boat-neck to pussy bow and bandeau. Skirts are fascinating items to invest in, and leather belts are capable of keeping the body figure and balancing an otherwise overstated girly jive.

Emma Cook

Fabulous is the exact word to depict Emma Cook’s masterpieces. Black, white and coral are the theme colours, and exquisite pleated lace dresses appear frequently in the show. The fish scales element is perfectly fused into collars and skirt rims, and the opaque plastic cloth really surprises us when it is used on dresses and coats to inspire a space-age vision.
